A Balloon Affair was established
in July 2000 by Kathleen Kilmer, and Richard 'Dick' & Rosemarie Kleitz
of Binghamton, New York. Both Dick and Rosemarie are Certified Balloon
Artists (CBAs). They obtained their CBA status in Chicago in March 2001,
and operated out of their home on the east side of Binghamton until
February 2003, at which time they opened a storefront at 249 Robinson
Street, Binghamton, NY 13904 (on the corner of Bigelow and Robinson).
As most of our customers now make their selections online, and we are
doing more and more on-site decorating, we decided to take the business
back home-based in 2006.
What is a Certified Balloon Artist?
The CBA program is the most respected certification program in the
balloon industry. CBA designers must pass a series of written
exams, followed by a four-hour CBA Practical Exam administered by a
panel of balloon professionals. They must demonstrate their
abilities in the areas of balloon decorating, balloon deliveries, and
balloon arrangements.
CBA designers are
proven experts and use only the finest quality products. They make
ongoing training and education a priority in their business, uphold
honorable business practices, and promote professionalism in the balloon
business.
Although most balloon
professionals don't attempt to obtain CBA status until they've been in
business several years (and many never try for CBA status at all), Dick
and Rosemarie made it their top priority for 2001. As two of just 21
people from around the world to take the test in March of 2001, they are
currently the only Certified Balloon Artists within a 50-mile radius
(according to the Qualatex Balloon Network).
In the fall of 2008, Rosemarie obtained the status of Certified Event Decorator, in Milwaukee Wisconsin. She is proud to be one of the first in the country to achieve this certification.
